Connecting with others on WhatsApp has always been a bit of a hassle. You have to enter numbers, save contacts, find them on WhatsApp, and then start a conversation. But now, with WhatsApp QR codes, things have gotten much simpler. You can just scan someone’s QR code and add them as a contact effortlessly. This feature is built right into WhatsApp, so you don’t need any extra apps. Let’s walk through how to use WhatsApp QR codes to add contacts step by step.
What are WhatsApp QR Codes?
WhatsApp QR codes are special symbols that you can scan to quickly add new contacts. Instead of manually entering phone numbers, just scan a QR code and WhatsApp will prompt you to save the contact. Once saved, you can start chatting right away. There are three types of QR codes: personal, group, and WhatsApp Web. Personal codes are for individual contacts, group codes are for adding people to a group, and WhatsApp Web codes are for logging in on a desktop.
Step 1: Create Your Personal WhatsApp QR Code
- Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
- Tap on the QR code icon next to your name.
- Your unique QR code will be displayed. If someone is with you and wants to add you, they can scan it right away.
Step 2: Share Your WhatsApp QR Code
You have two options to share your QR code:
- Screenshot: Take a screenshot of your QR code screen.
- Built-in Sharing: On Android or iPhone, find the share icon at the top of the QR code screen. Tap it, then choose where to send the QR code image (e.g., email, messaging apps).
Alternatively, if someone is with you, they can scan the code directly from your phone.
Step 3: Add Contacts Using QR Codes
- Go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap on the QR code icon next to your name.
- Select “Scan.”
- Choose the QR code screenshot from your gallery or point the phone camera at the QR code on another screen.
And just like that, the contact will be added to your WhatsApp.
What to Do If You Want to Stop Strangers from Using Your QR Code
If your QR code falls into the wrong hands and you start getting messages from strangers, you can reset it.
- Go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap on the QR code icon next to your name.
- Select “Reset QR Code.”
- Confirm by tapping “Reset.”
You’ll get a confirmation that the old QR code is deleted, and a new one will be created immediately. This means people with the old QR code won’t be able to access your contact.
With WhatsApp QR codes, adding contacts has become a breeze. No more fumbling with phone numbers – just scan and chat!
